Language & Culture: English is the official language for business and tourism so communication is seamless. The national language is Setswana. Batswana people are famous for their warm hospitality and peaceful nature.
Currency & Payments: Our local currency is the Botswana Pula. But don't worry because US Dollars Euros and major credit cards like Visa and Mastercard are accepted at all lodges and safari camps. We recommend bringing small USD notes for tipping.
Health & Safety: Botswana is consistently ranked as one of the safest and most politically stable countries in Africa. The main safari areas like the Okavango Delta and Chobe are malaria zones. We strongly suggest talking to your doctor about anti malarial medication before your trip. You also need comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical evacuation.
Best Time To Visit: The dry winter months from May to October offer spectacular game viewing because wildlife gathers around permanent water. The Green Season from November to April is a dream for photographers with lush landscapes newborn animals and amazing bird watching.
Visa Requirements: Visitors from the US ???? UK ???? EU ???? Australia ???? Canada ???? and most Commonwealth countries do not need a visa for tourist stays up to 90 days. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after you leave and has at least two blank pages.
Getting Here: Most international travelers fly into Johannesburg or Cape Town and then connect straight to Maun or Kasane which are the main gateways to the Delta and Chobe.
Bush Flights & Luggage Restrictions: Because our camps are so remote you will travel between lodges on small light aircraft. Please be aware that there are strict luggage rules. You can only bring 20kg total per person including your hand luggage. Your bags must be soft sided duffel bags with no rigid frames or wheels so they can fit into the small plane holds.
Clothing: The dress code on safari is totally casual. Light breathable clothing in neutral colors like khaki olive or brown is essential to blend into the bush and keep insects away. Try to avoid bright colors stark white or dark blue and black. Pack in layers because early morning game drives can get really cold while the afternoons are extremely hot.
Footwear & Accessories: Comfortable closed toe walking shoes or light boots are great for bush walks along with sandals for relaxing around the camp. You will definitely want a wide brimmed hat polarized sunglasses and a warm fleece or windbreaker for those evening drives.
Essentials: Don't forget high SPF sunscreen insect repellent any personal medications a good pair of binoculars and your camera gear with extra memory cards and batteries. Most camps offer free daily laundry service so you really don't need to overpack.
